KMC International Relationship With Sister Cities.
Brief Introduction of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC):
Kathmandu Metropolitan city is the capital city of Nepal. Kathmandu is spread over an area of 50.8 sq. km. It is the cosmopolitan heart of the Himalayan Region. It is the Gateway to Nepal, which is a land-locked country with an area of 147181 sq. km.
Kathmandu has a glorious history dating back to more than 2 thousand years, and a refined culture that ranks among the highest in Asia. It is also a modern financial and business hub, exotic tourist destination and a sacred goal for pilgrims.
International Relations Secretariat (IRS):
IRS is responsible for the management of international relations/affairs of KMC. It works for strengthening and promoting the relationship with sister cities as well as member international organizations. It also creates and provides opportunities to the KMC staff related to international workshops, seminars, study visits, training, and capacity building initiatives.
To date, KMC has sister cities with the following cities:
- Eugene, the United States of America.
- Rochester, the United States of America.
- Matsumoto, Japan.
- Xi'an, People's Republic of China.
- Minsk, Belarus.
- Yangoon, Myanmar.
- Pyongyang, People's Republic of Korea.
- Lhasa, People's Republic of China.
- Shenzhen, People's Republic of China.
- Varanasi, India.
- Lanzhou, People's Republic of China.
- Seoul, Republic of Korea (South Korea).
- Chengdu, People's Republic of China.
- Fredericksburg, the United States of America.
- Boulder, the United States of America
- Nanjing City, China

Recent Activities/Events:
On 23 December 2016, Kathmandu Metropolitan City of Nepal and City of Chengdu of the People's Republic of China have signed an agreement for the establishment of Sisterly Relationship between two cities.
